Week 4 ~ Blogging

Well, I'm listening to this weeks lecture at the moment, and am not really surprised at the amount of blogs that are out there. I'm not really into blogging (as you may have guessed) so am guilty of having abandoned blogs.

Why is this? Because I really don't have a lot to say. I could journal my struggle with bipolar, or the trials I have as a single mother, but having disjointed thoughts doesn't really make for good reading.

All in all, it was interesting to know how blogging came about, and how it has evolved, but this hasn't made me jump up and down with joy and make me want to keep an updated blog. But then again, I might just keep this one throughout my journey as a University student.

Week 4 ~ Web 2.0

Too much going on in my personal life to reflect on this topic, but next module looks interesting, so my next post should be awesomely awesome.

Week 3 ~ ...... and what is the World Wide Web?

What can I say about this weeks topic? Not much really, as I sort of already know what the www is.

I haven't really got much to say this week sorry. About the only thing I found interesting all week was the discussion on html vs WYSIWYG.

Ah well, hope this week is more interesting.

week 2 ~ What is the internet?

Who would have thought that the internet started way back in 1957? And, of course, all because the USA didn't want to lose the technology race !!!! (why is everything always a competition? hmmmm)

I cannot imagine what the first few networks looked like. A machine that took up half a room? The mind boggles in this day and age, where you can carry a mobile computer (namely a netbook) under your arm. And now networks are everywhere!!!! You can go have a Big Mac (oops, can I say that seeing that it's a trademark?) and still send emails or surf the web :s

Is it getting a bit ridiculous seeing as the internet was brought about 'primarily for universities to more effectively share computing resources'? Should the average person just log on at home and/or work? Why do we feel the need to constantly stay in touch with what is happening in the rest of the worlds miserable life, seeing as our own can be miserable enough?

Of course, the original idea is still there, that of bringing active participants together in an ongoing process. And there is born Web 2.0 with sites such as facebook, twitter, youtube, etc.

Although I didn't learn anything new this week, I still found the lecture extremely interesting, and am finding the interaction of all the students amazing. This is the internet how it should be :)

quote I got from week 2 lecture by Tama Leaver, but can't remember where he said it was from. sorry :)

Week 1

Alright, here I go .....

Although I have never been good at writing things down, I was told that I shouldn't be scared of saying the wrong thing on here, as reflective writing can neither be right or wrong. I'm still not too sure about that, but I am going to persevere.

After listening to the lecture, and doing the activities I could, I thought a lot about what I could say about my first week in this particular class, and lo and behold I didn't come up blank !!!

I have been using the world wide web now for about 8 years, and in that time I have gone through a lot of different user names. Yes, I can be very indecisive at times, and would rather toss a coin or play paper/rock/scissors to make my decisions. Anywho, the name I am using for this unit, which incredibly I think suits me to a T, is 2Hard4U2Handle. I want to explain this decision, as I am pretty sure that it will also help people to understand where I'm coming from, on the web as well as in life.

I am what one would call a loner. There are many and varied reasons for this, but the main one is that I have bipolar disorder, and when not controlled properly, my moods are extreme. I am not the classic 'manic-depressive' as I do function quite well whether I am up or down, but every one of my friends knows when I have hit a high or low point. This 'moodiness' (for want of a better word) is a lot for your average person to cope with. When I signed up for twitter, my favoured username was already taken so I had to think of another one and 2Hard4U2Handle seemed to fit me. So there you have the reasoning behind my name :)

Everything I've seen of the modules and assignments seem to be straightforward enough for me. I'm enjoying the interaction on the discussion board, and think I may even be bright enough to manage this blog thing. Guess only time will tell.

Ta ta for now xxxx
